Happy Birthday, Mikey Mermaid!
Today we celebrate the 20th birthday of my amazing friend and fellow mermaid, Mikey Skye Hartsfield. Mikey and I met in elementary school, but it wasn’t until a stream of photographs of our respective spoiled betta fish on Facebook during college that we began to embark on the journey of mermaiding together.
Mikey, we’ve been through it all. From advising each other on how to tend to a sick fish and being the only one to truly understand the mourning process for fishies when it doesn’t work out, to thinking up answers on the spot for all the very forward little girls whose curiosity is sparked by our tails glittering in the sunlight, we have proven time and time again that mermaids don’t come more true than us. You’re also such a talented artist, your betta fish pieces in particular just flowing with the love that I feel looking at my little friend Baby Poseidon.
